Ethical investment has been around in the UK mainstream since 1984 when Friends Provident launched "Stewardship". At that time Ethical Investment was seen as a potential threat to your wealth. This was soon dropped and ethical investment funds have since become a feature of mainstream financial planning. The concept or investment premise behind the ethical philosophy is that the fund manager will pick companies that have the potential to do well both socially and financially.
